DBT Skills

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) teaches practical, step-by-step skills to help manage intense emotions, cope with stress, and build stronger relationships. While these are skills usually known for helping individuals with BPD, a lot of the skills can be helpful for emotional regulation, distress and communication in general.  DBT skills are divided into four main categories:

Mindfulness

Learning to stay present and aware of your thoughts and feelings without judgment.

Distress Tolerance

Surviving emotional crises and reducing impulsive reactions.

Emotional Regulation

Understanding and managing your emotions in healthy ways.

Interpersonal Effectiveness

Communicating clearly and building strong, healthy relationships.
